How the universal heart of man blesses flowers. They are wreathed round the cradle, the marriage alter, and the tomb.
Nature made us individuals, as she did the flowers and the pebbles; but we are afraid to be peculiar, and so our society resembles a bag of marbles, or a string of mold candles. Why should we all dress after the same fashion? The frost never paints my window twice alike.

She paints with white and red the moors
To draw the nations out of doors.
The April winds are magical
And thrill our tuneful frames;
The garden walks are passional
To bachelors and dames.
The hedge is gemmed with diamonds,
The air with Cupids full,
The cobweb clues of Rosamond
Guide lovers to the pool.
Each dimple in the water,
Each leaf that shades the rock
Can cozen, pique and flatter,
Can parley and provoke.

The schools are sad and slow,
The masters quite omitted
The lore we care to know.
The babe by its mother
Lies bathed in joy
Glide its hours uncounted
The sun is its toy
Shines the peace of all being
Without cloud, in its eyes
And the sum of the world
In soft miniature lies
